Designed to help customers who currently struggle with music and the other noise associated with supermarket shopping, it will take place from 9am until 10am every Saturday at the Morrisons store in Fenwick Road, Giffnock.

The Quieter Hour initiative has been created with the support of the National Autistic Society, as many people who are autistic or those with autistic children can find shopping in a supermarket an anxious experience.

During the quiet hour, stores will dim the lights, turn music off, avoid making tannoy announcements, reduce movement of trolleys and turn checkout beeps and other electrical noises down.

Posters will be placed outside to tell customers that Quieter Hour will be taking place.

Morrisons will also work to improve awareness amongst colleagues of the issues autistic customers face in store.

Gavin Brown, store manager in Giffnock, said: “Our initial trials showed there is a need for a quieter shopping experience. We hope these changes make a real difference for some of our customers.”
