A BARRHEAD entertainer was left starstruck when one of his movie heroes turned up to see him perform.

It was a dream come true for 42-year-old Kris Blak as he got to share a stage with actor Dave Finnegan, who is best known for playing furious drummer Mickah Wallace in hit movie The Commitments.

Kris was in the middle of a set at the Tolbooth Bar, in Glasgow, when Dave made an appearance.

And it became a night to remember for the Barrhead man as his special guest agreed to perform a duet of classic rhythm and blues song Mustang Sally.

Kris, who performs a one-man tribute act to The Commitments, said: “Dave’s name popped up as a friend suggestion on Facebook because we have a few mutual friends, so I thought I’d add him – not expecting him to accept it.

“Thankfully, he did and we got chatting on Messenger.

“He said he was living in Glasgow now and I jokingly told him I was performing in the Tolbooth and that he should come in for a pint.”

Released in 1991, The Commitments is a musical comedy-drama based on the 1987 novel of the same name by Roddy Doyle.

It  tells the story of a young music fan in Dublin who assembles a group of working-class youths to form a soul band named The Commitments.

Kris, who lives in Barrhead and is married to local performer Ashley McCullagh, said he is a massive fan of the film and was delighted to introduce Dave over the mic to a surprised audience at the Tollbooth, who were able to chat and take selfies with the star.

“I wasn’t expecting Dave to come along,” he added. “I couldn’t believe it. He came right up to me and shook my hand and I think I forgot the words of the song I was singing.”
