As the 2003 school term drew to a close, members of Barrhead High’s Science Club ended their year with a bang.

Thirteen young people represented their club – supervised by Mrs McCallum and Miss Lapsley – at the prestigious Scottish Express Yourself Conference in Dundee.

Their display covered eight topics – blood, bones, DNA, fibres, bugs, teeth, trace analysis and fingerprints – and won an overall Highly Commended award.

However, Andrew Anderson, Stephanie Grant and Emma Patrick, with a superb display and highly articulate presentation on fingerprints, went one further, winning a place in the Express Yourself UK Final.

The school was delighted the Science Club, which provided excellent opportunities for learning through working together at fun activities in science, had brought well-deserved success to its members.

The club’s work was carried out in liaison with Coats, Ciba, the University of Paisley and Strathclyde Police.
