CONSTRUCTION is now underway on 10 new affordable homes in Fenwick Drive.

Work began this week at the site in Barrhead, which makes up part of East Renfrewshire Council’s plans to provide 240 new homes for social rent over the next five years.

It is the second phase in a multi-million pound plan, following the site at Robertson Street, also in Barrhead, where work commenced earlier this year.

The Fenwick Drive development will be home to four three-bedroom terraced houses and six one-bedroom cottage flats and is expected to be completed in February 2019.

A third site at Blackbyres Court, Barrhead, will see 13 three-bedroom terraced and semi-detached houses, one four-bedroom house and six one-bedroom cottage flats built, with work expected to commence in the autumn.

Each of the projects are being delivered in partnership with building contractor CCG (Scotland) Ltd.

Council leader Tony Buchanan said: “I am delighted with the positive response from the first phase of our council house build project at Robertson Street.

“I am delighted that we can deliver affordable and adaptable homes and expand our local communities for more residents to enjoy.”

Councillor Danny Devlin, convenor for housing and maintenance at East Renfrewshire Council, added: “Barrhead is very important to East Renfrewshire’s future plans and I pleased that we are now equipped to deliver more high-quality council housing for local people in the area.

“I look forward to seeing the sites continue to develop and benefit residents for generations to come.”

Calum Murray, director of CCG, is looking forward to watching the progress being made at the Fenwick Drive site.

He said: “The Robertson Street project has went very well so far, thanks to the use of our ‘iQ’ timber frame system, which ensures a faster speed of construction and, upon completion, strong environmental performance.

“This same system will be used at Fenwick Drive and we look forward to continuing our partnership with East Renfrewshire in the delivery of the housing, as well as providing local job and training opportunities.”
