THERE were plenty of smiles to be seen in Barrhead a decade ago as twinkle-toed youngsters danced their way to glory at a competition.

The event saw members from around 30 dance schools take part but it was the talented troupe from Lynne Anderson’s School of Dance who were celebrating at the end of the day, taking home a staggering number of prizes for their exceptional moves.

Although classes in freestyle disco had only recently got under way, members of the school were already feeling confident in showing off what they had learned in a competitive environment – and with good reason, as their haul of prizes proved.

Among the standout perfomances was the effort of Ellie Wilson, who secured first place in the under-four category.

Nicole White and Ailsa Martin were named winner and runner-up respectively in the under-eight section, while Caitlen Cameron came fourth in the under-10s.

Lisa McGowan and Aimiee Farrish tasted success in the under-13 section.

In the pairs event, the girls won the under-six, under-eight and under-12 categories.

Speaking to the Barrhead News at the time, instructor Lynne said: “It was great to see the girls do so well. They really deserved it.

“We’ve not been practicing this type of dance for long but they certainly have got the hang of it. It was good to see their faces light up when they won.”
