Barrhead’s Rainbow Run may have been the main attraction in the town on Saturday, but a group of keen football fanatics escaped the rain with a kick-about at the Foundry.

Children from across the area headed to the centre to take part in a Mini Kickers session, keeping dry in the sports hall as the rain poured outside.

The Mini Kickers programme provides a gentle introduction to playing football using fun-based activities.

The programme is led primarily by the Scottish Football Association, who hope that this early exposure to the game will help improve physical literacy and confidence in children.

Many of the sessions are also adult and child based, where a parent or guardian is able to join in with their child to support them through any initial apprehension.

Run for children aged three to five-years-old, the sessions take place across East Renfrewshire, with Saturday mornings seeing two sessions hosted at the Foundry.

Another two sessions take place in Barrhead throughout the week, again at the Foundry, as well as at Barrhead High School. Classes are also held at Eastwood and Williamwood High Schools, as well as St Clare’s and Eaglesham Primaries.

Classes cost £4.50 each and can be booked as a block. For more information visit www.ercultureandleisure.org/minikickersfootball. To book a session go online or call 0141 577 3008.
