A FREE lunch for widows of men who served as members of Barrhead’s Masonic Hall took place last week.

Union and Crown Masonic Temple Lodge on the town’s Cochrane Street was the venue as more than 40 women were fed and watered free of charge.

Held in what is now the oldest organisation in the town, having been open since 1824. the ladies enjoyed the afternoon, which doubled as social event.

Accompanying the slap-up three-course meal was a free raffle, which saw everyone walk away with a prize.

The annual dinner is part of the support network set up to support the wives of ex-members who have passed away, paid for completely by lodge funds.

Taking place last Wednesday, a healthy crowd turned out for the event.

As well as the raffle, things got more competitive as the women took part in a game of bingo.

To round off the day the ladies took to the dancefloor for a boogie.

A spokesman said: “The ladies where delighted with the afternoon and all who helped agreed it was a huge success for everyone.”
