A BARRHEAD man is facing jail after he admitted phoning 999 to threaten police – and then throttling one of the officers who turned up.
Alexander Peacock, of the town’s Rufflees Avenue, called 999 on March 11 this year and made threatening remarks, shouting and swearing and acting aggressively during the call.
He then went on to assault PC Derrick McCracken whilst he was on duty by placing his hands around the officer’s neck when he arrived at his home.
Peacock admitted his guilt over the offences when he appeared before Sheriff Kevin Duffy at Paisley Sheriff Court last week.
He pleaded guilty to charges of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner by making the phone call, and of assaulting PC McCracken whilst he was on duty.
Sheriff Duffy told Peacock: “In view of the offences you’ve committed, and the previous convictions you do have, the case will be adjourned for a criminal justice social work report to be prepared.”
Peacock will learn his fate when he returns to the dock next month.
