Members of a successful dance school were jumping for joy in 2008.

Pupils from the Gillian Anderson School of Dance, based in Barnes Street, Barrhead, scooped eight titles at the World Championships, held in the Tower ballroom, Blackpool.

The dance school enjoyed one of its most successful years, with pupils taking part in a number of competitions and festivals, including The British Championships, DiscoKid and Eurodance 2008.

Pupils also achieved passes in their tests that year, with many gaining honours and six given ‘professional’ status.

In addition, they treated audiences to impressive performances over two nights at their sell-out annual show, staged at Eastwood Theatre.

Dance school owner Gillian Anderson, from Barrhead, said at the time:

“It’s been a really successful year – one of the best so far.

“It is a massive achievement to win these competitions and the children put in so much time and effort. I am very proud of them and want to thank them for their enthusiasm and their hard work.

“I love teaching children to dance and, if I can pass on my passion and enthusiasm to my pupils, then that is a success in itself.”

Gillian also wanted to say thank-you to Michael Welsh for building her state-of-the-art dance studio, which opened in 2000.

And, to anyone who was dithering about sending their child to dance school, she urged parents to do it for the benefit of their kids.

Gillian said: “It’s a fantastic hobby for children.”
