Top police officer Brian McInulty has paid tribute to East Renfrewshire’s outgoing area commander.

Chief Inspector Angela Carty (pictured above) has retired after four years in the role, handing over the reins to Chief Inspector John McQuilter.

Ms Carty has been with the police for 30 years and spent much of her career on the south side beat before taking over from Chief Inspector Campbell Crawford at Giffnock in 2014.

Chief Superintendent McInulty said: “I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the significant contributions that have been made in East Renfrewshire by Chief Inspector Angela Carty.

“She has been an extremely committed officer who has worked tirelessly to keep people safe throughout her service.

“I would like to thank Angela for all the support she has provided to me and wish her a very long and happy retirement.”

Ms Carty started her police career in Glasgow in Govan, before going on to Pollok, Cathcart, Gorbals, and then Ayrshire.

During her time in the role she has helped tackle concerns highlighted by residents, including housebreakings, anti-social behaviour, speeding, violent crime, drug dealing and child abuse.

She was also responsible for reporting statistics to East Renfrewshire Council’s cabinet four times a year.

On its Twitter account, the council said: “Thank you to Angela for her incredible contribution to East Renfrewshire. All the best for your retirement.”
