A NEILSTON woman who was hoping to take her niece on a pleasant trip to the seaside has told of her “terror” as rowdy teenagers caused carnage.

Thousands of youngsters are reported to have filled trains as they made their way to Troon for an alcohol-filled day out, with families left traumatised by rowdy teenagers who proceeded to smoke, vomit and become aggressive with fellow passengers, according to witnesses.

Lucy Mathers had returned to her family home in Neilston from Amsterdam, where she now lives, to spend the Bank Holiday weekend with her family.

But the 30-year-old’s decision to take her five-year-old niece to Ayr on Monday turned sour as the child was left unable to sleep and experiencing nightmares after witnessing the scenes on the train.

Ms Mathers said: “There were maybe 100 teenagers at Paisley station. They were all pretty drunk and were falling all over us, it was like a stampede as they were getting on the train. They were just so obnoxious. A girl behind us was sick.”

A spokesman for ScotRail Alliance said anti-social behaviour at stations and on trains is “completely unacceptable”.

He added: “We will continue to work with the British Transport Police and other agencies to tackle this.”
