A MUM-of-two thanked a local councillor ten years ago after he insisted Scottish Water clean up raw sewage outside her home.

Councillor Danny Devlin was appalled that Suzanne Dougan had to wade through human waste to get in and out of her home.

And, thanks to Councillor Devlin, the disgusting mess was finally cleaned up six months after it first appeared.

Speaking at her flat in Fenwick Drive at the time, 29-year-old Suzanne said: “I am delighted the mess has been cleaned up.

“And its all thanks to Councillor Devlin.

“I have been battling with Scottish Water for months and I kept getting fobbed off with excuses.

“After Councillor Devlin got involved, the problem was fixed within two weeks.

“I was worried that my family’s health was being put at risk because the sewage had turned green and we were having to walk through it every time we went out.”

Councillor Devlin hit out at Scottish Water for taking so long to fix the problem.

He said: “While I am happy that the problem has been fixed, Scottish Water have dragged their heels over this and it should not have taken so long to fix.

“When Suzanne first contacted Scottish Water she was told that part of the road would have to be dug up but this has been proved to be untrue.”

Suzanne added: “For the first time in months I don’t have to worry about my kids being sick because of the waste.

“I am really glad I turned to Councillor Devlin because I really don’t think the problem would have been fixed otherwise.”
