Two pupils from St Luke’s High School travelled to Madrid 15 years ago to see the Pope.
Louise O’Neill and Jade Deehan, both 16, were chosen for the trip to Spain, which was organised by the St Vincent de Paul charity group.
The charity had been impressed with the work being done by S5 students at the Barrhead school within their local community.
The school trip with a difference saw the charity arrange travel and accommodation for Louise and Jade.
As well as enjoying the sunshine and the sights, the girls attended a massive rally of young people and were then addressed by Pope John Paul II.
Depute headteacher John Cusack said at the time: “They were absolutely enthralled and almost speechless from the impression the Pope made.
“They thoroughly enjoyed the trip.”
