One of Celtic’s biggest fans got a special treat in 2003, thanks to two caring pupils at St Luke’s High School.

The Barrhead News was told how Mary Donnelly, 96, was a devoted follower of the Old Firm team.

So, when we heard that two S6 students wanted to treat her to a day out at Celtic Park, we sent our photographer along to catch the scene.

Michelle Herrity and Katie Hood, who were part of a school initiative to send sixth year pupils out into the community, had been helping Ms Donnelly at her Neilston home.

The two schoolgirls then had an idea and asked depute headteacher John Cusack for his help, with the three of them arranging for Ms Donnelly to be picked up from her home and taken to Celtic Park.

Once there, she was given a special tour by star defender Johan Mjallby.

Michelle and Katie also went along and were equally thrilled to meet some of the Celtic players.

Ms Donnelly was also presented with a card signed by all the players, including Scotland ace Shaun Maloney.

As an added bonus, she got to meet Hoops manager Martin O’Neill.
