A YOUTH group held their annual spring fair on Saturday as crafters from across the area joined the club to sell their wares.

The young people of Nex Gen hosted the event which offered craft and coffee on Saturday morning.

Run by Barrhead’s Spirit of Life Church, the fair took place at St Andrew’s Church and managed to raise £559, which will now go towards a summer excursion for the dozen or so youngsters who attend Nex Gen.

The church’s pastor Ken Trench said: “Saturday really was great and it was fantastic to have raised so much, we are actually a little surprised by the final total.

“People have been very generous and we are extremely grateful for everyone, the young people, the crafters and the public, for making this event happen.

“The young folk we have in the group are amazing and I suppose we are very lucky we have such a positive outgoing group at Nex Gen.”

Made up of about 12-15 regulars, the 15 to 21-year-olds who attend are extremely active members of society. As well as their activity as part of the church, the young people also link up with the town’s foodbank through the Spirit of Life church.

They have also had members travel as far afield as Kenya to do volunteering and outreach work, something else that may benefit from public support and donations in future.

Other events may be held later in the year so anyone who missed out on Saturday’s offering should keep their eyes peeled for more fundraisers later in the year from Nex Gen.
