THE latest fundraising event staged by members of a Barrhead Scout troop went down a treat with all those who went along.

More than £900 was collected as the 3rd Barrhead Scouts held a soup and cake fundraiser at St Andrew’s Parish Church.

Volunteer Ken Campbell said: “The event went very well and, while it would be hard to put a number on how many people came along, we were certainly very busy over the few hours.

“The idea of having a soup and cake morning and holding it slightly later in the day means that we are separate from other coffee mornings taking place in the area.

“We had some of our older groups, the Scouts and Explorer Scouts, serving the food and we received some great feedback, both on the day and afterwards, on how they did.”

Hosted in the church’s Main Street building, the total raised on the day surpassed £1,000, with two of the group’s Explorer Scouts managing to gather more than £100 on their own stall.

Some of the proceeds will help to pay for Hollie Campbell and Morvin Sudding to travel to West Virginia next year to take part in the 24th World Scout Jamboree.

And the fundraising boost will also allow the Scouts to buy some new equipment for group activities.

There are four different age groups in the Scout troop, from six to 18.

As well as the Scouts and Explorer Scouts, there are the Beavers and the Cubs, with around 110 local youngsters involved.
