Friends, family and the dance class next door all contributed to raising funds for the Boys’ Brigade.

Members of the 2nd Barrhead Company held their annual coffee morning at Bourock Parish Church on Saturday, with the proceeds being used to help pay for the running costs of their junior section.

Around 50 people came along to sample some sweets treats, with the group benefitting from additional footfall from church regulars and pupils at the church’s dance class.

Brian Heron, leader of the BB company’s junior section, told the Barrhead News: “We had a really good turnout and things went really well.

“We have had a small downturn in numbers for the junior section this year. Normally we can have as many as 20 boys but we only have nine at the moment.”

As well as equipment, the money raised will go towards buying badges earned by the boys in the year ahead.

While the coffee morning proved to be a hit, Brian is planning to give boys from the junior section more responsibility when it comes to their next fundraiser.

He added: “At Saturday’s event, it was mostly parents, friends and church members who did the baking. We have some fabulous bakers and cooks here at Bourock Parish Church, so that was fantastic.

“One of the things that I would like to do with the junior section is to organise a bake-off between the boys.

“I’m not too sure whether anyone would want to eat what they make though, so it was easier to play it safe this time and leave that for the future.”
