Scones and sandwiches were enjoyed by the dozen at a Barrhead eatery as staff took part in their very own bake-off for a worthy cause.

Alma’s Deli, in Cross Athurlie Street, hosted a charity coffee morning in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

People of all ages were drawn by the promise of prizes and pastries, with Barrhead councillor Angela Convery among those going along to offer support.

A wide selection of home baking joined the usual favourites on the menu at Alma’s, with the event raising more than £450.

And that total is continuing to rise, with donations still pouring in from supporters.

A spokesperson for Alma’s Deli said: “What an amazing day we had at our coffee morning in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

“From all of us here at Alma’s Deli, we would like to thank everyone who supported us in this great cause and to our local businesses and our suppliers who donated gifts to our raffle.”

As well as the food and drink, a variety of raffle prizes, including a whole crate of Irn-Bru from soft drink suppliers Barr, were there to be won.

A number of local businesses also chipped in to help out, with prizes being donated by The Brigg Inn, Soundmaster and F&M Hairdressing.

BHF is the nation’s heart charity and the largest independent funder of cardiovascular research.

Its pioneering research has helped to transform the lives of many people living with heart and circulatory conditions.
