AN award-winning barber has been handed a dream role that will see him travel the world to pass on tricks of the trade.

Paisley man Davie Walker, who runs a successful salon in Barrhead, has been snapped up by industry leaders Wahl Clipper Corporation as a brand ambassador.

And, describing his prestigious appointment, the 35-year-old businessman said: “If this was football, I would have just been transferred from Partick Thistle to Barcelona.”

Davie, whose Barrhead business was named the nation’s Best Barber Shop at last year’s Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards, will now work alongside celebrity stylist Simon Shaw and have access to Wahl’s latest products.

He said his new role is one of the biggest in the industry.

Davie added: “They have been tracking me since 2015, so they know about the success we have had over the past year.

“It was an achievement to even make it to the consideration stage but, when I got the call to confirm the role, I was really chuffed.”

Davie said his new appointment is a “career high” that can only have a positive impact on his business.

“For the shop, the profile will just keep going up,” he added. “The Barrhead store has gone from strength to strength since we opened, starting with a customer base of 1,700 and now with more than 4,000.”

Davie, who is the first Wahl ambassador to come from Scotland, will continue his work locally to improve the training being given to those coming through in the trade.

He works with three colleges to help improve facilities for trainees, as well as running the Autistic Barbers Association (ABA) and hosting media events across the UK.

Davie said: “I do six or seven days in the shop in a row now, as well as everything else that I do.

“With the ABA, we work with families and kids with autism, teaching them a bit about what we do.

“It has been great, the community has really taken to it.

“Unfortunately, the only way will be back down from here but I’m hoping that I can keep this up for at least a decade or so.”
