PROPERTY prices in both Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire have increased over the past year, it has been revealed.

The latest UK House Price Index (UK HPI), released yesterday, shows the average cost of a home in these areas has gone up, in line with a national trend.

Those buying properties in Renfrewshire in November paid an average of £119,553 – up by 4.4 per cent on the previous year’s figure of £114,564.

East Renfrewshire homebuyers also had to fork out more, with properties there costing on average £223,995, compared to £221,440 in November 2016 – a 1.2 per cent hike.

Although house prices increased in both areas, the volume of residential sales in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire dropped.

In September, there were 340 sales in Renfrewshire – down by 0.6 per cent on the same month in 2016.

And there were 128 sales in East Renfrewshire, which was 15 per cent fewer than in November 2016.

The latest UK HPI shows the average price of a property in Scotland in November 2017 was £145,992.

This represents an increase of 3.6 per cent on the previous year.

However, the Scottish average remains significantly below the figure for the UK as a whole, where the average house price is £226,071.

Kenny Crawford, Registers of Scotland business development and information director, said: “Average prices have been steadily increasing each month since March 2016, when compared with the same month of the previous year.”
