ONE of Glasgow's oldest priests has died at the age of 96.
The Archdiocese of Glasgow confirmed that Canon Thomas Murphy died on Monday, January 8 in the Drakelands Nursing Home, Kilkenny.
A spokesman for the Catholic Church said: "One of Glasgow's oldest priests has died aged 96.
"Canon Thomas Murphy was ordained in Ireland for the Archdiocese of Glasgow just three years after the war ended.
"In his priesthood - all spent in Scotland - he had a lengthy and varied series of appointments."
He spent time at city parishes including St Robert's; St Ninian's Knightswood; St Mary's; Our Lady of the Assumption; St Conval's; Corpus Christi and Immaculate Conception, St Paul's Whiteinch.
He also worked at St Margaret's Hospice and he eventually retired to Ireland in 2003.
A funeral mass will be held in St Brigid's, Ballycallan on Wednesday.
