IT was hair today, gone tomorrow for a Barrhead salon which celebrated its 16th anniversary by moving to new premises.

F&M Hairdressing has swapped its old Main Street location for the former Royal Bank of Scotland building in the town’s Cross Arthurlie Street.

Owners Kevin Finnell and Brian MacMillan let their creative flair shine as they gave the empty unit a drastic makeover.

Now featuring a gents station, café area and root bar, the salon has even kept the bank’s original safe to acknowledge the previous purpose of the facility.

Brian told the Barrhead News: “It’s been an exciting journey getting here. We managed to move here from our Main Street salon in just one day, keeping disruption to our customers at minimum.

“Not only do we have this great, new space, we’ve now got 50 per cent more seats for customers and are looking for more stylists who are looking for a new challenge by joining our growing team.

“We’ve got a lot more projects planned for the future that will continue to see F&M move upwards, so it’s a very exciting time for everyone in the team.”

F&M Hairdressing has achieved several accolades since its 2001 launch, including being named as a flagship salon for UK haircare giants TIGI.

The salon’s striking new look has caught the eye of Barrhead Business Improvement District (BID) manager Andy Dunlop.

He said: “It’s great to see businesses in the town continuing to grow, showing that Barrhead residents really do support their local shops. F&M has always been an ambitious business and we are very lucky to have them as a supporter of the BID.”

F&M Hairdressing is open five days a week, from Tuesday to Saturday.
