Panto fans can look forward to some hair-raising fun as the Johnstone Phoenix Theatre Group stages its latest show.

Audiences will pack into Johnstone Town Hall to enjoy Rapunzel and the Tale of Rumpelstiltskin, which is the group’s 100th production.

Curtain goes up this Saturday, with the panto enjoying a week-long run.

The story follows Princess Rapunzel, who is played by three actresses. Jennifer Scott performs as the adult character, with Sara Todd and Georgia McKay sharing the role of Rapunzel as a child.

Rapunzel is cursed by the evil Rumpelstiltskin, played by Wynter Elliot, aided by his less-than-effective henchman Gothel the Groton, alias Ross White.

Rumpelstiltskin kidnaps the princess on her 10th birthday, holding her prisoner in his tower for eight years.

Thankfully, Rapunzel is under the watchful eye of the Sorceress and the Captain of the Royal Guards, played by Jillian McCall and Barry Orr respectively.

The King (Kevin Keay) and Queen (Craig Inglis) are distraught over the loss of Rapunzel and enlist the help of court jester Muddles (Daniel McDonald) to search for their daughter.

Iain Usher, spokesman for the Johnstone Phoenix Theatre Group, said the cast and production team have been working hard since August to put together their take on this classic fairytale.

He added: “We have some fab songs in the panto to keep everyone’s toes tapping.

“Veteran performer Craig Inglis keeps us laughing throughout the show as the resident panto dame and will even get audience members up on stage to take part in some fun and frolics.

“Join us to find out if good prevails over evil and boo the baddies and cheer on the goodies at Johnstone Town Hall.

“Magic, mystery and surprises await you.”

Performances take place at 7.30pm each night from Saturday, November 25, until Saturday, December 2.

There will also be 2pm matinee shows on both Saturdays.

Tickets cost £13 for adults and £10 for concessions. To book, call 0774 882 7727 or email jptg.tickets@gmail.com.
