AN ABERDEEN fan who travelled to watch his team take on Celtic in the Scottish Cup Final was arrested five minutes before kick-off for his drunken antics.
At Glasgow Sheriff Court, Alexander Walker pleaded guilty to engaging in behaviour that was likely to incite public disorder. On May 27 this year, the 20-year-old gesticulated, shouted and attempted to kick vehicles along Langside Avenue on his way to the footie match.
The accused also admitted resisting arrest by pulling away and running off.
The fiscal depute told the court that Walker had attended a pre-game event at The Shed for Aberdeen supporters.
On the way to Hampden, plain-clothed police officers spotted the accused on the road with his arms outstretched and shouting loudly. He was seen attempting to kick vehicle wing mirrors.
During his arrest, Walker broke free and attempted to run away. He was recaptured after a short foot pursuit.
When searched at the station, he was found to be in possession of a ticket for the match – which Celtic won 2-1 – and confirmed he had travelled to see the game.
He apologised for his behaviour, telling officers: "I'm sorry."
In defence it was claimed that it was the first time Walker had been to a match without his parents and had indulged in too much alcohol. He was said to be "quite ashamed" of his behaviour.
Following his arrest – which was five minutes before kick-off – the accused has not been to a game since.
The sheriff scolded the football fan: "Mr Walker, it's not a great position to find yourself in."
Walker, of Paradise Road in Inverurie, was fined £300.
