A BARRHEAD salon looks nailed on for a bright future after reaching the final of this year’s Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards.

Hot Gossip Hair and Beauty Salon is facing competition from five rivals to be crowned the country’s Salon of the Year.

Joint owners Jamielee Docherty, 24, and 25-year-old Laura-Ann Price will attend a glitzy gala dinner at the Crowne Plaza, in Glasgow, in December to learn if their hard work has paid off.

The pair, who both hail from Barrhead, were put forward for the award by their loyal band of customers – just seven months after launching their Cross Arthurlie Street business.

Although the recognition wasn’t expected so soon after opening the salon, both women have been buoyed by the nomination.

Jamielee, who is also in the running for the Nail Technician of the Year gong, spoke of her surprise at making the final.

She told the Barrhead News: “We’re very proud.

“I’d worked in three salons before this and Laura had worked in salons for seven years but we finally decided to take the plunge and set up our own.

“We make time for our clients and we’re never out of the place.

“The Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards involve a survey, where your clients vote for you. We then shared it on the salon’s Facebook page.”

Jamielee continued: “We didn’t expect to make the final but we thought we would go for it.

“Our attitude has been if we don’t get it, we don’t get it.”

The Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards are designed to showcase the country’s creative talent and reward those who excel in their field.

Now in its seventh year, the competition attracts hundreds of entries from salons and individuals across the country.

There are 30 different titles to be won on the night, covering everything from make-up artistry to barbering.

Hot Gossip staff were required to submit evidence of their work after their nomination – and a judging panel saw fit to award them a place in the grand final.

The final will even pit barbers and hair stylists against one another for a live event to determine who provides the best service.

Finalists will be judged by a panel of industry professionals before the winners are announced on Sunday, December 3.
