VETERANS in all four Erskine care homes rolled back the years to take part in the annual Sporting Senior Games.

Taking place on Older People’s Day and UN International Day of Older Persons, plucky pensioners competed in basketball, boccia bowls, javelin and cycling on static bikes.

Teams from Erskine Park, The Erskine Home, Erskine Glasgow and Erskine Edinburgh were feverishly preparing for weeks in anticipation of the day of competition.

Taking place at Park Mains High School, in Erskine, the event was held in partnership with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), with the majority of volunteers on the day being students.

Janet Leith, Erskine’s head physiotherapist, told The Gazette: “All the training paid off, especially for Erskine Park Home, who won the John Bowman Memorial Trophy.

“The volunteers and staff played a vital role in supporting and cheering our residents on, ensuring everyone enjoyed the day.”
