AMATEUR bakers across Renfrewshire got busy in the kitchen as they took part in some fundraising fun for a cancer charity.

Among those who supported the annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, organised by Macmillan Cancer Support, were staff and pupils at Cochrane Castle Primary School, in Johnstone.

Their event, which raised £230, was led by 10-year-old Lauren Crawford, whose grandfather lost his battle with cancer last year.

Lauren, who is in primary seven, said: “People from all of the classes baked something for the day, including cupcakes, pancakes, doughnuts and brownies.

“I am very pleased with how the day turned out and to have raised money for such a good cause.”

Another fundraising event took place in the hall at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, in Bishopton, with more than £300 coined in.

As well as the sweet treats on offer, there was a raffle, with lots of prizes up for grabs.

Frances Bradley, of cosmetics specialists Arbonne, was also there to offer hand and arm massages to guests.

And Denise Cooper, of Captain Tortue Fashion, went along to provide seasonal wardrobe tips, with visitors able to take advantage of exclusive discounts.

Denise said: “Pandamonium Play Centre, in Erskine, supplied cakes on the day and we also had home-baking on offer.

“The charity is important to me as my father was treated by Macmillan and this event coincided with the anniversary of his death.”
