MEMBERS of the Renfrewshire Huntington’s Disease Support Group got together for the annual Walk of Hope.
Around £1,500 was raised at the event, which took place along the banks of the River Clyde in Erskine, and this will be donated to the Paisley-based Scottish Huntington’s Association (SHA).
The charity supports families living with Huntington’s disease (HD), which is a hereditary condition that causes changes to thinking processes and muscle control and can cause long-term mental health issues.
Margaret Moncrieff, from Houston, has been organising the annual Walk of Hope since 2008, shortly after her sister was diagnosed with HD.
She said: “I believe my mother had the condition, meaning that I had a 50 per cent chance of inheriting the faulty gene.
“While I do not have the condition, my brother was not so lucky and showed signs of schizophrenia before passing away.
“The cash raised from our walk will help the SHA provide a support and advisory service to HD families.”
