Anderlecht fans protested outside the stadium demanding the sacking of under-fire manager Rene Weiler after they were held to a draw by lowly Kortrijk.

Celtic will travel to Belgium later this month for their second Champions League game against Anderlecht.

But the current Belgian champions are in turmoil after just two wins in seven games following Saturday’s 2-2 draw and they are already nine points off league-leaders Club Brugge.

Anderlecht fans demonstrated after the game, demanding the Swiss coach be axed.

They also complained about the style of football Weiler has them playing, which puzzled the under-pressure boss.

He said: “I have never ever known in football a group of fans protesting about the way a team plays the game.

“I don’t like hearing the criticism of me, but that’s part of football. I will obviously have to learn to live with it.

“I am focusing on finding the solutions and I am responsible for results.

“But I will continue to try and do my job as well as possible.”

And Anderlecht star Leander Dendoncker admitted the fans were entitled to protest after a disappointing start to the season.

He pointed out: “The supporters have the right to express their views.

“They represent the club, so they can sing what they want.”

Anderlecht face Waasland-Beveren next Saturday in their last game before they entertain Celtic at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium.

Meanwhile, PSG defender Thomas Meunier has backed struggling Anderlecht to beat Celtic and claim third place in the Champions League group.

Belgian defender Meunier watched his team-mates destroy Celtic 5-0 in the opening game in the Group Stages last week. Anderlecht crashed to a 3-0 loss at Bayern Munich in the other game in the section.

Celtic travel to Brussels to face Anderlecht in the next game which is expected to go a long way to deciding who clinches third place and a Europa League spot.

And Paris stopper Meunier reckons Anderlecht can beat Celtic, despite their poor start to the season.

Meunier said: “It was far from easy at Bayern Munich for Anderlecht, but that’s the same for every club.

“Against Celtic, it will be a different situation for Anderlecht.

“I really think Anderlecht will finish third in our group.”

Meanwhile, Meunier has insisted he wants to stay with the megabucks French club despite being used as a bit-part squad member recently.

He insisted: “My future is in Paris. I have no interest from other teams as far as I know.

“I also had no reason to change my team because, even though I’m on the bench a lot recently, I think Roberto Martinez knows I can contribute to Belgium.

“And I remain confident I can get back my place in the team.”
