BUSINESS high-flyers across Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire are in the running at the prestigious 20th annual Glasgow Business Awards.

Run by Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, and sponsored by Royal Bank of Scotland, the 700-guest ceremony will take place on October 5 at the Hilton Glasgow, with the leading companies across the region honoured in 16 different categories.

The awards have a rich history and have grown significantly since the inaugural event.

Paisley-based Spectrum Service Solutions is among the finalists for two awards, while two Barrhead businesses – Barrhead Travel and AC Whyte and Co – have also made the cut in this special year.

Spectrum Service Solutions, which specialises in contract cleaning and facilities management, will go head-to-head with five companies for both Best Performing Business with over 51 employees and Best Customer Service.

AC Whyte and Co’s staff are no strangers to the ceremony, having been crowned the Best Family Business of the Year in 2013, 2014 and 2015, and the Barrhead contractor has been shortlisted for Best Family Business for the fifth consecutive year, as well as Excellence in Customer Service and Best Performing Business with over 51 Employees.

Barrhead Travel will compete in the People Development category.

Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said: “It was 20 years ago when Glasgow’s economy began to grow again and the success of businesses has been fundamental to that growth.

“We are proud to have been celebrating the city’s business achievements for all of those twenty years.

“Many of the city’s most important companies, both large and small have been winners.

“Our business community is diverse, ambitious and creative and we have always seen that reflected in the quality of entries. As Glasgow grows so too does the Glasgow Business Awards and we are convinced that will continue in the years ahead.”

Malcolm Buchanan, chairman of Royal Bank of Scotland’s Scottish board, said: “These awards offer an opportunity to celebrate the wealth of skill and depth of talent which exists here and offer a platform to showcase the qualities and resource which have made it a capital of enterprise for generations.

“We are sure this year’s event, which marks the awards 20th year and the Royal Bank of Scotland’s 290th anniversary, will be a great success.”
