A PORTRAIT of Barrhead author Chris Brookmyre is to feature in a new exhibition.

Chris, who has enjoyed huge success with novels such as Quite Ugly One Morning, Boiling a Frog and Dead Girl Walking, is among a number of crime writers who are being included in a show of work by the Reverend Leslie Donaghy.

Leslie was once told he had just a few years to live after the discovery of a brain tumour.

Now he has turned his artistic dream into a reality exactly five years on from the shock diagnosis.

His new exhibition will be staged at the Backdoor Gallery, in Dalmuir, from Friday, August 18, to Saturday, September 16.

Leslie, who studied for a brief time at the Glasgow School of Art before turning his attention to the church more than 30 years ago, said: “The other exhibitions I’ve had are quite a bit away and a few folk have travelled to see them but this means that the people that I was brought up with can visit the collection to see what I’m up to now, which is quite nice.

“It’s like I’ve went full circle almost. When I was 17, all I wanted to do was work in music or art, so it’s like a dream come true.”
