A BARRHEAD triplet flew 3,600 miles to her “wonderful” hometown to be with her siblings as they celebrated their 70th birthdays.

Now a resident of Roanoke Rapids, in North Carolina, Marie McCreadie Bohanon was able to mark the milestone with identical twin brothers Morris and Wallace after her daughter Carol arranged a special month-long holiday.

The three siblings were treated to a celebratory meal at the town’s Amano Italiano as they looked back on seven decades of family, fun and friendship.

There were also trips to Largs, Loch Lomond, Glasgow and Stirling Castle, with ex-Central Café worker Marie also making a point of popping into her former place of employment for an ice-cream.

While Wallace still lives in Barrhead, Morris is a little further away in Yardley, in the West Midlands.

Marie made the move to the USA in 1967, when she secured a job as a governess in Manhattan, along with her best friend Mari Carse.

Having been a regular visitor to Barrhead, she chose to stay in the US.

Despite living far from Barrhead for many years, she has retained her fondness for the town.

Asked to name her favourite thing about the area she grew up in, Marie said: “Everything. It was wonderful. School was great, my friends were great and I had my family there.”

Carol, 39, who also lives in North Carolina, was only too happy to accompany her mum back across the Pond.

The 39-year-old told the Barrhead News the holiday will live long in her memory.

She said: “We had an amazing trip. We were there for four weeks and were able to visit a lot of family.

“I’ve been told that my granny Annie was confident that she was having twins but was surprised when she had the boys and then my mum made her appearance.

“Mum loves the US but there’s no place like home. She grew up at 47 Patterton Drive and had a wee dog named Bumper.

“I believe she misses Barrhead terribly but stays here because of her children, grandchildren and her wee dog, Bugsy.”
