FAMILIES and friends flocked to a Barrhead care home to join elderly residents at a bumper fete which put the smile into summer...despite some wet weather.

The four hours of fun included singers, balloon artists, a raffle and a barbecue, while young guests were able to enjoy face painting and a bouncy castle.

Laura Kane, joint owner of the family-run Parkhouse Manor Care Home, told the Barrhead News that the fete is an annual event - and she declared this year’s gathering as an undoubted success.

She said: “The weather wasn’t too good but that didn’t stop the fun as we had marquees to keep us dry.

“Friends and families of staff and residents came along and had a great time.

“The kids had a ball with the face painting and the bouncy castle - and the barbecue was there if folk got hungry.

“It’s something the residents look forward to and they enjoyed the day immensely. That’s what it was all about.”

Laura runs the care home, in Parkhouse Road, with her sister Emma, supported by manager Karen Goodluck.

Money raised from this year’s fete will be used to help pay for special treats for the residents, with the likes of a day trip to Largs and a fish supper night being planned.

Laura laughed: “The residents have a better social life than I do.”
