The funeral service of Glasgow’s “dentist to the stars” took place this morning, one week after he was found dead in a field.

The body of Jamie Newlands, 39, was discovered by police officers on the evening of July 28 in Greenfield Hill, Moor Road in Eaglesham.

Police Scotland confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, and that a report had been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Hundreds of mourners were expected to turn out to the memorial at Newlands South Church in Glasgow’s Southside which started at 11am, after which a private service was held for close family and friends.

Jamie was once the director of the award-winning Berkeley Clinic cosmetic dentist in Glasgow’s Newton Terrace.

He was a well-known face in the Glasgow social scene and worked on the likes of Paolo Nutini, actor Robert Carlyle, and Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri, as well as top footballers and former Miss Scotland contenders.

Tributes were posted to the young dad online this morning from friends who were unable to attend the funeral.

‎Finbar Francis Bryson‎ said: “Apologies that I cannot be there in person today. In spirit I will be. Thoughts and prayers are with you all. God bless.”

Michelle Mooney Bergson wrote: “I am so sorry I cannot be there to say goodbye. Rest in peace Jamie.”

Claire Laurie also said: “I’m sorry I can’t be there today to say goodbye old friend and share in the fond memories we all have of you. I will truly miss you. RIP.”
