TWO Barrhead brothers were left stunned when their band’s new single was aired on Radio One.

Haydn Park-Patterson and Ronan Park at first couldn’t believe what they hearing when a fan of The Ninth Wave shared a video of them listening to Reformation on the BBC station.

The pair, aged 21 and 19 respectively, were in the middle of a practise session when they realised the track was indeed being played on Radio One’s Specialist Chart.

Lead guitarist Haydn spoke of his pride afterwards as he recalled the moment.

He said: “We were in the studio practising and someone sent me a video of them listening to it in their car and said we were on Radio One.

“I thought they were kidding on then I saw it said Radio 1 on the wee screen in their car.

“Someone in our team sent it out and it’s just luck I guess.

“Trying to get on the radio is obviously quite difficult.

“We’ve been played on BBC Scotland by Vic Galloway a few times but Radio One is obviously one of the biggest stages.”

The noise pop artists’ airtime on Radio One came just days before the release of the music video for their new hit track.

Haydn and Ronan, the group’s synth and bass player, are also set to release an EP in September, alongside fellow members Elina Lin, who is a 21-year-old Finnish singer, and 22-year-old drummer Lewis Tollan.

The release will follow almost two years on from their first EP, Only The Young.

Describing the reaction they’ve received since releasing Reformation, Haydn said: “It’s been really good.

“There was a good reception from people that have already liked our Facebook page and people who are already fans of the band.

“Then we put out the video and, since then, we’ve seen a lot more people commenting, saying they liked it.

“We’ve racked up a good number of views already.

“Recently, we’ve been able to spend a lot more time on the band. We’ve been playing a bunch of new songs and had a good reception to those.”

Twelve months on from taking to the T Break Stage at T in the Park, The Ninth Wave have another packed summer schedule to look forward to.

Among the festivals that await are Kendal Calling, Belladrum, Doune the Rabbit Hole and Twisterella.
