A WOMAN was arrested for allegedly shouting homophobic abuse in a Barrhead street.

Police were called to a disturbance in Kerr Street on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 11.

A 49-year-old woman was later charged with a statutory breach of the peace after making “homophobic comments”.

Sergeant Jim Boyle, from Giffnock Police Station, said: “At around 3pm on July 11, a 49-year-old woman was apprehended for contravening section 38 of the Criminal Justice and Licensing Act 2010 for allegedly shouting homophobic comments to another person in Kerr Street, Barrhead.

“She was subsequently arrested and is expected to appear in court at a later date.”
