A PLAY documenting Celtic’s 1967 European Cup win will be staged at Eastwood Park Theatre.

The Lions of Lisbon recounts the famous 2-1 victory against Inter Milan – and the journey 10,000 supporters made to watch their team create history.

Hailing from Scotland and much further afield, those who travelled to the Portuguese capital witnessed the Parkhead side become the first British club to claim the trophy.

To add to the feat, all of the team’s players lived within a 30-mile radius of Celtic Park.

The ‘Celticade’ stretched from the Campsie Fells to the Pyrenees, rolling like a green carpet across Europe.

Those who couldn’t afford the plane travelled on slow boats and long-distance lorries, in battered vans and buses.

The fans lived on borrowed time and borrowed money, arriving in Lisbon with a fistful of Escudos and a heart full of hope.

A cast accompanied by a live band are set to recreate the humour, passion and occasional calamity that accompanied a Glasgow & District XI which showed Europe’s finest how the beautiful game should be played.

Willy Maley and Ian Auld’s hit show will take place at the Giffnock venue on September 3, from 7.30pm onwards.

Tickets cost £18. Phone 0141 577 4956 or click here to reserve seats.
