YOUNGSTERS had a ‘wild’ time in Barrhead as they got to grips with an exotic array of snakes.

Auchenback Resource Centre was the venue for the Scales and Tails event, which proved to be a big hit with children who went along.

They were thrilled to be able to handle the slithering serpents and learn all about how they hunt for prey.

Snake experts were on-hand to make sure everything went smoothly and kids also had the chance to create their own snakes, using the likes of paper, cardboard, string and even pasta.

Guests took inspiration from the fun facts they had learned about the snakes to produce an impressive range of designs.

A spokesman for Scales and Tails said: “The idea behind it is to educate the next generation on each species. The children learn how they would be able to spot these animals in the wild.

“They’re also taught about how snakes live in the wild and how some can be kept as pets.”

While snakes were the main focus of the Scales and Tails event in Barrhead, the Ayrshire company also offers sessions specialising in lizards, tortoises, hedgehogs, frogs and insects.

The fun-filled workshops range from 30 minutes to two hours.

The spokesman added: “We cater for all different functions, such as birthdays, as well as school visits.

“It’s a chance for people to meet our fantastic lizards, snakes, frogs and other amazing animals.

“You can have a look through our selection list to meet specific animals and add extras such as face painting. We also provide education packages for schools and other organisations.”
