A MAN and a woman have been arrested after police uncovered a heroin haul worth an estimated £80,000 in Neilston.

Officers who raided a property in Madras Place on Friday afternoon discovered more than 800g of the class A drug.

A smaller amount of tablets, thought to contain controlled substances, were also recovered from the same address.

Police have confirmed that a 29-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman have since been charged with alleged drug offences.

Sergeant Michael Morganthaler, who is based at Giffnock Police Station, said: "On Friday, June 23, as part of an intelligence-led operation, police carried out a search of a premises in Madras Place, Neilston.

"Officers were acting on a sheriff's warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

"As a consequence, a significant quantity of heroin, in excess of 800g, was recovered.

"That was recovered along with a smaller quantity of tablets which are also believed to be controlled drugs.

"A 29-year-old male and a 24-year-old female have subsequently been arrested and charged with offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act in relation to the supply of controlled drugs.

"A report is being submitted to the procurator fiscal."

Police have also vowed to continue to clamp down on drug crime across East Renfrewshire.

Sgt Morganthaler added: "We are committed to tackling the supply of controlled drugs within East Renfrewshire and all information that we receive is treated confidentially.

"The supply of controlled drugs is a blight on society and it has far-reaching consequences."
