Artist impressions of a multi million pound plan to boost East Renfrewshire's economy have been revealed.

Through the Glasgow City Deal project, East Renfrewshire achieved a £44 million investment to deliver the infrastructure to support and enhance the strategy outlined in the Council's Local Development Plan.

According to East Renfrewshire Council, Balgraystone Road (opposite St Luke’s High School) will be reconstructed to provide improved access to the Country Park and facilitate the development of 200 new homes.

A new railway station is planned at Barrhead South on the Glasgow to Neilston line. It will also include a car park and bus interchange providing improved public transport connectivity. Construction of the station is expected to commence in 2019.

Aurs Road will be improved including the creation of a new roundabout and replacement of a weak bridge. This will create a safer, more direct route between Barrhead and Newton Mearns for all road users. It will also provide safe access to and across the Country Park. Work will commence in Spring 2018 and is expected to be completed by Summer 2019.

To provide more information on the plan, East Renfrewshire’s City Deal team will be at Barrhead Foundry on Thursday (29 June), from 4-7pm.

Ahead of this event, councillor Alan Lafferty, Convener for Environment, told the Barrhead News: “It’s exciting to see these new artist’s impressions of Balgraystone Road and the proposed new railway station – it really helps to bring to life the planned improvements to connectivity in East Renfrewshire.

"These Glasgow City Region City Deal projects are part of our ambitious vision for future development of the area, and will play an important part in developing East Renfrewshire’s local economy, as well as creating jobs and improving business opportunities.”
