SUPPORT poured in for a fundraising coffee morning at a Barrhead church.

Dozens of men, women and children popped into St Andrew’s Parish Church for the annual event.

With a fine array of home baking, tea and coffee on offer, as well as a raffle prize draw, visitors were quick to put their hands in their pockets to support the church’s friendship group, which has been struggling to meet transport costs.

Now, though, members will be able to enjoy some day trips after the coffee morning raised around £900.

Half of that sum will go towards supporting Bourock Church’s Barrhead Summer Club, which aims to show children they can laugh, have fun and dance in church.

Cath McGrath, an elder at St Andrew’s Church, has thanked all those who supported the event.

She said: “We have a coffee morning once a year to raise funds – there are two fundraisers in one. The church has a friendship group and t that takes people of older ages away for the day.

“It’s got so expensive we’d had to pay towards it ourselves. The money we raised goes toward the bus the group uses.

“This year, they went to Dunfermline for high tea.

“The other thing we raised money for is the Barrhead Summer Club.

“It was a fantastic sum. We’re really well supported and not just by the church. Lots of other people from the other churches came along.

“It was a great coffee morning.”

Reflecting on the day’s atmosphere, Ms McGrath added: “It’s a nice way to blether to people and it’s nice to see people who don’t get to church but somebody makes a wee effort to bring them.

“I feel that, nowadays, there’s so much badness in the world but, if you can get together and get to know each other better, then it’s very nice.”
