FAMILIES can declare war on boredom by heading along to a fun day with a difference.

The annual Armed Forces Family Fun Day will take place at Rouken Glen Park on Saturday, June 17, offering a wide variety of attractions for people of all ages.

Starting at noon, the event at the Giffnock greenspace will begin with the raising of the Armed Forces Day flag at the park’s pavilion.

In the main events area, attractions will include a military display, climbing wall, birds of prey, assault courses, farmers’ market, craft stalls and a chance to try archery and laser quest.

Vintage military vehicles and costumes will be on show and the 3SIXTY bike display team will perform during the afternoon.

The day will also feature performances from battle re-enactment group Swords of Dalriada, Barrhead-based sports club I-Kick Martial Arts and several East Renfrewshire musicians.

Further entertainment will be provided by talented performers from the Gillian Anderson Dance School.

A spokesman for the organisers said: “The event will close at 5pm with a final performance from Barrhead Burgh Brass Band.

“This will be a fantastic day out in the park and is free for all those who want to attend.

“Armed Forces Day is a national celebration designed to give people the opportunity to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from serving troops to service families and from veterans to cadets.”
