The tale of Kieran Tierney running through the Hampden car park to get back in and lift the Scottish Cup, is one that will go down into Celtic folklore.

For me, the 19-year-old is a real throw-back to players of my own generation, right down to the way that he holds himself, his build, his approach to the game and his real understanding of what it means to play for Celtic.

In many ways his response to the injury and getting back to make sure he got his hands on the trophy is indicative of the way that Celtic have gone about their business this season – there has been hunger, a relentlessness and real heart about the side.

Tierney has had a pivotal role in that and I don’t think anyone will quibble with the suggestion that he is a boy with a massive career ahead of him.

For now, though, he is in no rush to go anywhere and Celtic have no need to sell. Tierney It is remarkable how young he is still and he will have learned so much in the past couple of seasons, especially with his exposure to the Europa League and the Champions League.

I also have to say that I don’t have too much doubt in my mind about whether Jayden Stockley meant what he did or not. It was what I would call discreetly deliberate but to my mind he knew exactly what he was doing.

I know he denied it after the game and Aberdeen will be quick to defend their player, but he is a big guy and you simply don’t cause that kind of damage just by swinging your arms and moving your body.

There had to be a fair bit of force behind it, although it was cute enough that you could watch it back and not know if he meant it or not.

I have my own opinion and I suspect that Tierney did too, judging by his reaction going off the pitch. In fairness, much of that would come down to real frustration that he was having to go off as Celtic were chasing a Treble but we all know what followed next.

The lad deserved his moment up there and it seems fitting that his story of the final is one that will be retold over the years.

He plays with the heart of a lion and I suspect that he will have at least another couple of seasons at Celtic yet.

I actually don’t think there is a need for anything more other than a tweaking of the squad this summer.

Jonny Hayes has been linked with a move to Celtic and what you would have to say is that of the players Brendan Rodgers brought to the club a year ago, the likes of Scott Sinclair flourished under him.

Rodgers had worked with Sinclair before in his career and it could be a similar thing with Hayes. The Irish internationalist is about to turn 30 but that is not too bad – he will still have a few good seasons in him.

With Patrick Roberts looking as though he will head back to Manchester City then you can understand why Hayes would be seen as a versatile fit to play on the flank, with James Forrest there too.

There will be some who will look for the big marquee signings this summer but you have to say that this season Rodgers has earned the right to bring in the players that he believes he can get the best out of and fit into the team.

Sometimes you bring players in for massive money and it works, other times it doesn’t – and you can have the opposite effect too of upsetting a dressing room.

There is a need for some players to come in over the coming months and we will see that. The central defensive partnership of Dedryck Boyata and Jozo Simunovic has been good but I wonder if we might see another central defender come in too, while I would also expect to see a midfielder.

What we have seen this season is that Rodgers is able to engineer the best out of players. He has brought them to a level that they weren’t anywhere near and you could go through the squad and make that claim for the vast majority of the squad this season.
