KIDS had a great time making new ‘ani-pals’ as a Barrhead pet shop threw open its doors for a special celebration.

Members of the community were invited along to Country Feeds Pet Supplies, in Kelburn Street, as it marked its 30th anniversary.

And there was a real treat in store as staff plucked a number of cute pets from their cages to give animal-loving youngsters the chance to cuddle up to furry friends and learn more about their dietary habits.

Marion Gibb, co-owner of Country Feeds, said: “We had an animal show and a balloon artist and the Guide Dogs charity was also here with a tombola stall.

“The animal show featured the likes of rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and gerbils and we served tea and coffee.

“A lot has changed in the 30 years since the shop opened, most notably the amount of different foods available to animals.

“There is such a wide range now that you need to diversify and do various things. We even do horse and pigeon food in bulk.”

Staff at Country Feeds were delighted to use the open day to support Guide Dogs Scotland, with a donation made to the charity each time a guest bought a tea or coffee.

Marion added: “We were extremely busy and all the staff and members of our families helped out.

“We were also pleased to give the Guide Dogs charity a donation.

“It was a very successful event and I’d like to thank everyone involved for all of their help.”
