A CRAFT and farmers’ market saw people of all ages turn out in force to support Barrhead businesses.

The event was organised with a ‘Shop Local, Enjoy Local’ theme to boost the coffers of smaller traders in and around the town.

It was the ideal day out for bargain hunters, who flocked to the Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire (VAER) base in Barrhead’s Kelburn Street.

A selection of products were on offer, from scarves to home baking.

Francesca McKay, VAER’s community hub development worker, said: “The market provides a wonderful opportunity for local people to buy goods from local crafters and farmers.

“In turn, the crafters and farmers get to showcase their unique and wonderful products, as well as promoting East Renfrewshire’s food and growing network.

“There was something for all the family. Charlene, from Sparkle Faces, offered face painting and local children’s author John Rankin read excerpts from his latest books.

“Kids also had the chance to take part in a fun competition judged by John.”

Members of the VAER team manned a pop-up café which served tea, coffee, cakes and soup throughout the day.

Away from the refreshment area, a range of stallholders caught the eye, with traders such as Once Upon a Wish Bows and Gifts, Macshack Art Glass, Tranquil Treats and Treasures, David’s Gifts Ltd and Cottage17 Textiles taking part.

Also in attendance were representatives from Macklamm Honey, Papillon Designs, Silk Scarves and GSA Community Bakery.
