A BARRHEAD golf course has been set on fire for the second time in four days.

Firebugs caused a wildfire at Fereneze Golf Club last night.

Emergency services were called to the scene just before 8.45pm.

An image shared on social media showed smoke billowing over the course.

It is the second time the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has attended a blaze at the golf club this week.

Vandals set fire to the 11th hole of the course on Monday.

A fire service spokesman confirmed the incident is being treated as malicious and said: “At 8.44pm on Thursday, May 11, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to reports of a wildfire near Fereneze Golf Club, Barrhead.

“Two appliances were mobilised and firefighters used beaters to tackle the flames.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring that the area had been made safe.”
