TALENTED songwriter Aidan Smeaton is hoping the Sky’s the limit for his music career after releasing his new single, writes David Carnduff.

Aidan, who is originally from Barrhead but now lives in Paisley, is one half of AIVIS - a transatlatic electronic pop duo who hope to make a big noise in the charts.

The former St Luke’s High pupil hooked up with Ohio-based producer Travis Murphy after the pair started sharing ideas on social media site reddit.

They have only met in person once, when Aidan travelled to Chicago last August to film a video for their debut single The Wilderness.

It was viewed more than 5,000 times in little more than a month and caught the attention of electronic pop fans across the world.

Now some of the video footage shot for The Wilderness has been used for the duo’s latest single Sky, which is available from most online music stores.

Despite living on different continents, the two halves of AIVIS kept in regular contact through the video messaging platform Skype before meeting up in Chicago.

And Aidan has revealed Travis will be joining him in Glasgow for their first gig later this year.

He said: “We have only appeared on video before but are now planning our first performance, which will probably be somewhere in the Glasgow area. We have never stood up in front of an audience.

“By the summer, we will also have produced a total of three singles and our album, which is almost finished.”

Aidan has urged aspiring songwriters and producers not to let geographical boundaries stand in the way of their ambitions.

“Any teenagers who are doing this as a hobby and making music online should never give up,” he said.

“If they are making music in their bedroom, they should share it with people online and do something like this because it’s been life-changing for me.”
