BARRHEAD residents are to be given a chance to make the town a better place to live.

East Renfrewshire Council (ERC) is asking people who live in the Arthurlie, Springhill, Dalmeny, Dunterlie and Dovecothall areas to share their views on where they live in an online household survey.

Residents who live in other parts of Barrhead are also welcome to put forward their opinions on how the town could be improved as somewhere to live, work or visit.

A statement issued by the local authority states the results of the survey will be used to help put together a plan for Barrhead which will identify the main priorities for development in the area over the next 10 years.

ERC has also said community groups and organisations are to benefit from funding and support for the main projects that respondents would like to see come into effect due to the process.

The local authority has outlined plans to work with other public services to help the community achieve its ambitions.

Among the topics being addressed by the survey is the future of housing provision in Barrhead.

East Renfrewshire MP Kirsten Oswald has expressed concern about the erosion of the area’s green belt.

She said: “Many of the sites being brought forward for housing are damaging to biodiversity, create additional flood risks or leave residents dependent on their cars.

“Developers need to work with the community and the council to produce proposals for sustainable development.”

Everyone who completes the questionnaire will be in with a chance of winning £100.

The survey, which will be accessible from Friday, May 5, can be filled in by clicking here.
