POLICE were called in Barrhead on Friday after a 13-year-old boy was seen allegedly brandishing a broken snooker cue.

The teen was arrested after police received reports of the cue being swung in a threatening manner in the town centre.

In a related incident just under an hour later, a 15-year-old boy was arrested for breach of the peace.

Both will be reported to the children’s panel.

The following night police were called when two men aged 17 and 22 were seen with offensive weapons - sharpened sticks - in Carlibar Road.

They were arrested and reported to the procurator fiscal.

Inspector John McQuilter said incidents of street disorder and youths carrying offensive weapons will be dealt with robustly.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the day of the Old Firm match, a 21-year-old man was arrested in Aurs Crescent for allegedly causing a breach of the peace with with a sectarian element.

He was due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday.
