NEILSTON residents have been told to guard against bogus traders following a series of incidents in the village.

Police are warning those who live in the area to be wary of who they open their door to and to always ask for identification from workers.

The message comes after a report emerged online claiming a man had tried to swindle a pensioner out of £120 for a roofing job in Hartfield Crescent.

It is believed the man was driving a van without any tools.

One Facebook user confronted the man who was seen driving slowly around the Hartfield Crescent area of the village.

They later posted a status to warn fellow Neilston residents.

It read: “Dozens of comments saying this guy has been in your gardens.

“If you see a bogging unmarked van doing 10 miles an hour up and down the street on a Sunday I’d suggest that’s a bit suspect. Cold calling for work is illegal.

“We are a wee village. Look out for your neighbours, old ones in particular and their property.”

Inspector John McQuilter, who is based at Giffnock Police Station, said: “Police are aware of reports of bogus workers in the Neilston area.

“If you see anything suspicious please call 101 to report it.”
